Base for Cream Pies

My dad honed this recipe which can be used for any flavor of cream pie, coconut, banana, etc. The secret ingredient is the sour cream!

2 C. sugar
2/3 C. +4 tsp corn starch
6 C. milk
6 egg yokes
after it is cooked, 4 Tbs butter
21/2 - 3 tsp vanilla
13 drops of yellow food color
2 tsp. flavor of choice extract
2/3 C. sour cream

Combine sugar corn starch, milk and color. Over med. heat until full boil. add small amount to whipped egg yokes. (this heats up the eggs) vigorously stir the egg yokes into the mix. Add the sour cream and mix quickly. Add butter and stir till well blended
